The Sunday before the True Colors Tour, Luca and I went out to the Red Rock area.

We drove past the entrance to the Red Rock park for about three miles and turned into the road for Spring Valley Ranch, paid our 5 dollars for parking and the toured the area. The first cabin there was built in 1870 and the Wilson Brothers filed for homestead in 1875. After a few years, they were in trouble financially and this guy, (I forget his name, but he was "Furrier To The Stars in Hollywood!" bought the ranch. During the forties and fifties, it was owned by a German actress named Vera Krupp; she had had several husbands, but her last was the famous and very rich Krupp of the German steel and manufacturing Krupps. She eventually sold the ranch to Howard Hughes, and he finally worked out a sale to the state of Nevada for the park system.

It's a lovely place, about 3800 feet up and there is a spring that feeds the area, so there are lots of big trees and grass. At one point, a lake was made by damming up an area below the output of the spring and it is lovely with ducks and reeds and the huge mountains nearby. As long as you are in the shade, it's about 15 degrees cooler than it is in the valley. A very lovely place.

As you will see...

It was lovely!

Do you see luca?
