Perhaps this font is one of the M and M's colors....

And perhaps not... I certainly don't know as I am somewhat color blind.
Anyway, today all my senses were put to the test as we visited the M & M's store on the strip. I was with two somewhat well known podcasters; Zillafag and Tory. Zilla is a good friend and has appeared in the journal before, most notably at Mardi Gras, the year before Katrina. I always have a lot of fun with Zilla, and this time he was accompanied by Tory, who is from Australia, the Melbourne area.

I met them in their hotel room at the Sahara and after a some hihowareya time, we got into my car and went over to the "Downtown area", the old original and somewhat run down casino area. It's the thing you always see in any older film about Las Vegas and it's good to see. We walked up the five or so blocks and then back, all the while telling Tory something about the history of the street. On the way back, Zilla decided that we should play slots at Fitzgerald's, one of the older casinos. Zilla and Tory played two machines and I watched as they lost. Then, I noticed a Double Triple Cherry machine that I have often won on, so Zilla and I each played on one. Tory picked something called Triple Ice and was doing pretty good, but Zilla and I each lost 20 bucks soon enough. I watched for a while and then decided to play a Wheel Of Fortune machine nearby. It was a 50 cent machine and the 20 bucks went pretty fast, but on my last spin, I hit for 500 points. I could have played a bit more, but two hundred and fifty dollars is good enough for me and I cashed out. I am $410 ahead on slots since I got here in February, (I am $2200 ahead lifetime, well since Harrahs opened in New Orleans). My slot machine history is strange, definately above the curve. I don't play that much, but I seem to win more than I lose. Perhaps it's kharma...

Here you see Zilla and Tory on the strip near the MGM Grand. Now, I don't want you to get the wrong idea here... (sorry boys, Tory is straight, married w/2 kids), hehe, but really a great guy; once again, we meet someone really interesting and fun through the net. We went to the M&M place because Tory has a thing for that confection, and bought a lot of things to take back to Oz. Then we went across the street to the NY, NY Casino for some lunch at one of their venues, a tex-mex place with good enough food.

After the NY, NY, we went to the Coca Cola store for a bit, then threaded our way through the MGM Grand, (which is the most maze-like of the strip casinos) and got back to the car to drive a short trip to the....

...the Luxor! The Luxor is somewhat amusing, as it is a pyramid shape and full of fake Egyptian stuff. But the big reason we went there, was so Zilla could ride...

the INCLINATOR! You see, the "elevators" that go up the inside of the pyramid go up at a forty-five degree angle and that's sort of interesting, but to Zilla, who maintains buildings and the machines within them, this was a biggy, big deal. He really got off on it and it was fun to watch. Also, I liked the way the pic turned out in the mirrored elevator; check out the faces.

After that, we got into the car again and I drove them to the Sahara, and after some good-by hugs, I hit I-15 and returned home.

Other News...

My Dad is not doing all that well. When I saw him earlier this summer, I noticed some big changes; he didn't really know me at the airport when we picked him up. He was much more vague and passive and we needed to remind him to change clothes and shave. Often, he would go into his room to change and come out thirty minutes later in the same stuff. He is unfailingly polite to anyone he meets and can understand a joke and sometimes tell one, but his short term memory is like ten minutes.

After some recent tests and evaluations, we have decided to keep him with my brother and family for maybe two months while we evaluate options for assisted living near my brother's house. Next week, my brother and sister will be packing up his place at the "retirement village" in Rochester. We decided that it was better for my Dad to be closer to the grand-kids. They love him and do not see him as flawed in any way, he's just more like them than the rest of us are. It's sweet, you know. Our Boston area doctor says that it will be between one and four years before Dad requires 24 hour nursing. My feeling is that it will be closer to the shorter time.

On a happier note: Luca and I will be going to Palm Springs, where we hope to adopt an eighteen year old boy.

Just kidding! Really! Bwahahahaha!

We will be going there to see our friend Alex Gildzen read some of his poetry at a Gay Poetry event. I am really looking forward to seeing Alex shine amongst his peers! And, I really need a little break before the holidays; mid November until January 5th or so is my time in grocery retail; I'll be gloriously and deleriously busy.

I went to Burbank again this last week for our regional meeting to find out what new stuff we have for the holidays, and I can only tell you that it is all fabulous! We ate all day! Nummi-num-nums!

The weather is getting more lovely day by day, there's a spring in my step and a new way of singing and that's enough.
